For me, it was a 2001 (I think) Subaru Outback with a manual. Now before you guys pick up your pitchforks and torches, hear me out. It steered well and drove fine..once you got started. The guy who owned it hadn't changed the clutch in like ten years, and second gear grinded every time. So, it was literally awful to drive, it never started smoothly, and the clutch pedal kicked your leg back into the dashboard. Yeah. I haven't driven anything worse except the Miles Electric Vehicle, but that pretty much doesn't count as a car.

2004 Hyundai Elantra, it's my friend's. The gear selector broke off in my hand. My views of Hyundai is forever tainted. This is not his, just a google picture.

Matrix (and I assume Vibe). The auto and manual are both shitty. The clutch acted like an on/off switch. Noisy 4 banger. No power. Uncomfortable seats and seating position no matter how you adjust things. Ugly in my opinion. Cheap all around.

My 95 lebaron convertable...
I probably deserved all the bad with this car. The Gear reduction transmission sounds like it is breaking and made the most god awful noise whenever you stopped and when it went out cost an arm and a leg to fix. The wing window motors went out one at a time and that was in 2001 5 years and 90k on it. Fuck you lebaron.

2010 Jeep Patriot. It was a rental for a week....
No power, terrible transmission, uncomfortable, useless interior, hard plastics everywhere, cheap, looks like shit, drives like shit, rough ride, handles like a brick, no feel, too small to be actually useful.

A 1996 Renault Twingo. The starter motor would only work every 3 tries, and the engine would make horrible noises while starting. The clutch was bad, the engine was awful, the dashboard was shit and the exhaust was coming off. It was horrible in every way apart from interior space. That was actually impressive!

An automatic transmission NSX from San Antonio to Houston was the pretty horrid. The most boring and pathetic car/drive ever. But a 2009 ish Toyota Solara is the worst by a couple gallons of vomit. The Solara's windshield wasn't made for a convertible set up. If I remember correctly from my days at Toyota/Lexus, the Solara's are all coupes and turned into convertibles somewhere in California. The structure around the windshield flexes while you drive. As someone with bad eyes to begin with, they use to give me the biggest headaches ever! On a service trip to Laredo from San Antonio, I pulled over a total of 4 times to vomit. It was horrible.

Actually new Hyundais have come a LOOOOONG way since the early 2000's. I took that 05 Tucson I mentioned before in for an oil change (free otherwise I'd be a good Jalop and do it myself) and trans flush yesterday. So I killed some time in the showroom. I might get a Hyundai before a non-luxury Japanese brand.

2012 Ford Focus.. it was my drivers ed car. The problem was it was also a dealer loaner car. It was so abused. Already had 40,000 miles, hundreds of drivers. It was driven by old people, racers, and inexperienced kids. Horrid transmssion and seating position. I hated it.

This POS right here. My first car, paid $500. Rarely cranked. Seat belts would unlock when they wanted to. Stacked a crank bearing. Fixed that and put it out of its misery a couple weeks later by smashing into a foot tall curb at about sixty because stupid teenager.

Also, I rented a 2013 Kia Rio sedan and took it from Atlanta to Columbia SC. Great gas mileage (around 41 in eco mode) but fuuuuck, the seats were horrible. It's not the most scenic drive to begin with and those fucking seats amplified the hell. I had to stop at a gas station and buy a big bottle of water and place it between my the seat and my lumbar. It did give some relief but there was nothing I could do about the shitty radio.

An 87 Taurus.
It was 4 years old when I got it and it lasted two more before I traded it in at a "push, pull or tow it" dealer sale.
It was towed in on a rollback, the towing company knew me on a first name basis..
Random overheating issues, constant "could not duplicate" EEC issues, 5 TFI module replacements, rust like I've never, ever seen before or since and finally a toasted transmission put it out of my misery.
(Not my pic)

You know...I'm not really sure. Had a 12 Focus rental car with their DCT, and it sucked...but that was just the transmission. I think the overall winner is the metallic purple 2011 Grand Caravan I got suck with driving to a few meetings in the summer of 2012. No power...merging was a struggle. Hated everything about it.

The hand me down Tucson I'm driving is an 05 with 52k on the clock. Considering my sister, a typical female driver, was the driver for the vehicles first 7 years, and I, a typical 20something car enthusiast male for the last year, it has held up quite well. The only issue it had was a small oil leak which was fixed under warranty. The transmission is its weakest point in my opinion, but still, it has been a reliable car.

Prius C in terms of fun.
I drove an AWESOME BMW Bavaria but it felt like the motor mounts were about to fail and all the parts that hold the wheels on and seats to the floor were about to break.

Do motorcycles count, too? If so, I got one.
Anything in the Suzuki SV line - the engine was odd, clutch required so much precision to engage that even the most minute mistake will stall the thing....
Oh, and it's uncomfortable.

A couple of years ago I drove one of these (Opel Kadett "D" Wagon) - only in pale blue color. It was one of those "worker cars" used for transporting house remodeling crews in their drity clothes with all their stuff, while spending absoultely no money on the car apart from gas. The interior was falling apart, the exhaust was rotting away heavily, etc. Still, I admired the old Opel as everything was working - it started, ran smoothly, stopped (although some new tyres would have been a good idea), the (manual) gearbox was working OK, etc.

I have driven a large number of truly awful cars, but it's likely between a first gen Chevy Aveo and a 2006(ish) Jeep Compass... with the four cylinder. I can think of literally no reason why I would purchase either vehicle. Just shockingly awful cars.

Wow. Any number of miserable rental turds over the years. One of my past employers used Avis exclusively which meant we got a steady diet of GM midsized cars...miserably shit as a rule and utterly forgettable...
My mom had a '75 Coupe de Ville that was about the size of Rhode Island and accelerated about as well yet cornered like a sleeping bag. For a couple of months I drove a '78 Aspen with the slant six engine, auto slushbox, AM only radio, bench seats and bias ply tires. No, seriously...bias ply tires. Any corner taken at speeds faster than a walk induced all sorts of tire squalling...which was kinda fun actually.

2000ish Toyota Corolla. I had to drive an hour or so one way to a job site for a month or so, and my boss gave me his Corolla with gas paid for the duration of the job. I drove it for one day and gave it back. I drove my MKV GTI and paid for my own gas until the job was done.

I own it: 1964 Imperial Crown Coupe. It's like driving a 2-ton king-size waterbed with a steering wheel only loosely connected to the wheels and a 10-second delay on the gas pedal. The car is magnificent to look at and a joke on the road.

I drove a 2007 Legacy wagon for few days when it was almost new, it had only 2000 miles (not Outback version) and I literally hated the clutch. No clutch ever in a wagon should be so firm that it makes your knee hurt just after a 10 mile city traffic with few traffic lights. In WRX - ok, but not in a family wagon. I like it when clutch has a bit of a backforce but you should be able to press the pedal just with the weight of your foot and not force it like when you try to open the door on broken elevator.

New Car: Ford Aspire (or A**fire).
I worked for a car rental agency, and I HATED the underpowered, cheapness of the tin can.
"Experienced" car: my in-laws well used Ford Explorer Sport.
Steering was horrible, brakes were pretty much non-existant, seat was busted, and the tranny kinda worked.
